Our Story
In early March 2008, I went to a banquet for a Christian ministry called Kingdom Authority Ministries (KAM). While I was there, I decided that I wanted to do something for KAM, but I didn’t know what.
At this time, I had owned a barbeque smoker for a few years, but I had never gone and picked it up from the place I bought it; and in all honesty, I had no idea what to do with it. One day my family was talking about cooking out and my smoker came up and my wife told me that I should actually go pick up my smoker. After that, I started wondering about the smoker and just thought about it for a while without anything really happening.
Then, one Sunday I went to church, and just as I sat there, listening to the preacher talk, an idea hit me. I came up with the idea to fix up the smoker and rent it out to people for their family reunions, church events, and any other special occasion. Then I had the idea that instead of having just one smoker, maybe I should get three more, and then I thought, if I’m going to get three, I might as well go ahead and get five smokers. Therefore, I could create a small rental business to make a little extra money, and in doing so, I would be able to give KAM a percentage of the profits.
It seemed like the perfect idea. I could give people a way to smoke their meat for special occasions and at the same time give money to a good cause. Now the only problem was finding smokers to buy, and getting everything worked out and moving.
Not long afterwards I found a guy that actually builds smokers, and because I was going to buy five new ones, we were able to work out a deal and I got all five smokers at the same time for a great price. Then I found a guy through my brother-in-law, who actually has a graphic design business, who could help with some of the other things I needed done, like researching, and creating a flyer and a logo. I then found another person to create a website for me so people could rent the smokers online.
Everything was working out perfectly business wise, the only real struggle I had was trying to tell my wife my intentions of giving away a portion of my profits to KAM. At this time money was tight, we had a mortgage on 2 houses from our move to a new town, and I just didn’t know how to tell my wife my plans. When I finally did tell her, it was through an e-mail because I just didn’t know how to express it in person. In all, I just wanted her approval and support, and with her response came the tension breaker of all my worst expectations. She fully supported my idea and all my intentions. She had no problem with anything I was doing or planned on doing; and I love her for it! With that pressure and anxiety dropped from my shoulders, I finished up most of the loose ends and called Hugh Huber to tell him my plan.
I have known and been friends with Hugh Huber for about 20 years, and while we come from different worlds, we are actually quite the same and even used to hang out in bars together, which may be part of why I feel led to help him and his ministry. KAM has now been established for a few years now, and I feel very proud to be in any way associated with it, and deeply respect Hugh and what he’s accomplishing
Now please don’t take what I’m telling you to be a self-commending gloating on my part. In the Bible, there’s a verse from Proverbs 3: 5-6 which says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding”. I believe that the smoker rental idea was God sent in order to help KAM and that my success of getting everything together and everything falling into place perfectly was only more of an indication that it was suppose to happen for this reason.
KAM is flourishing and I am just trying to do my part to aide their needs and am so proud to be even the smallest part of the ministry. Hugh is doing a great job and is accomplishing so many things. Even just recently, Hugh got his first residence for KAM in Waxahachie, Texas. I believe everything has gone and still is going according to the Divine plans that set it all in motion.
